Palm Muting
Palm muting is an essential rock guitar technique. We use the heel of the picking hand to mute the string that we are playing. This makes the note sound muffled and shorter, and sounds great with distortion. This effect has been used in many modern rock and heavy metal songs. It is particularly important for thrash metal.
